The 20-year-old defender made 13 + 1 appearances for the club and made a positive impression during his stay which has coincided with a significant upturn in results.
The Hull-born player signed off his time at the club by being awarded Man of the Match on Tuesday evening versus Bristol Rovers by match sponsors Cornberry Ltd.
Speaking to Premium Shots, manager Dean Holdsworth said, "Sonny has done well for us and he has improved his game, too. It is disappointing to lose him early, but I fully respect the decision. I spoke to Nicky Barmby this morning and it is a situation where we would have done the same thing.
"I wish Sonny well and he leaves with high admiration of the club and coaching which is pleasing to see."
